Research Scientist Position - Synthetic Chemist / Medicinal Chemist:

We are seeking a full-time Synthetic organic/Medicinal chemist with expertise in synthesizing organic molecules and isolation and purification of molecules/metabolites from complex matrices. The ideal candidate is obsessed with the question of how to best in synthesizing and modifying the microbial products. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking microbiome startup and help build the foundation for microbiome as therapeutics.
Job responsibilities:

Develop and perform LC-UV/MS and HRLC-MS/MS method development and quantification of metabolites from complex matrices

Develop and perform extractions, isolation, and purification of natural products from fermentation cultures

Synthesize and modify the isolated products

Analyze and characterize purified compounds by various techniques including TLC, LC-MS, and NMR
-
Review current literature and contribute novel ideas to guide the pre-clinical development of novel microbiome-based products

Document work in notebooks and technical reports

Prepare presentations for internal meetings

Knowledge of safe laboratory practices, including the proper procedures in handling chemicals and samples
Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry required

Ideally 2 to 5 years of hands-on post-doc experience or industrial experience

Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and natural products chemistry or related field

Skilled in developing the scalable synthetic routes for potential leads and design and synthesize target molecules

Additional experience in scale-up of samples for in-vivo and ex vivo studies
